Volunteering at The Canterbury Care Centre

Volunteering with a local charity is something thousands of people in this country do on a regular basis. We are truly thankful for each and every person who gives their time to support the Canterbury Care Centre in Guildford each week. Quite simply, we could not function with you!
At the Canterbury Care Centre our wonderful team of volunteers help out in a variety of ways:

  • Helping run activities with members
  • Preparing lunches
  • Having a chat with members over a brew
  • Helping on trips and excursions
  • Driving members to and from the Canterbury Care Centre (mileage allowance paid)*
Volunteers singing and playing music with members.
Some volunteers come in regularly, and others fit it in around their work and family life. All volunteers get a free lunch on the day they help to say thank you.

Volunteering at the Canterbury Care Centre is very rewarding, you will be working directly with members to help make their day special.

We would love to hear from anyone who’s got from just a few hours to a few days a week spare. Most people who volunteer with us have no prior experience in the mental health sector, and a full induction will be given.

“ My role I feel is to enable people to feel free to experiment. I work with individuals sometimes guiding the hand of an artist or try to inspire those who feel stuck. The most important thing is to make people feel welcome. If they’re in a place where they just want to talk and have a cup of coffee that’s fine”.

- Claire, Volunteer Artist

Unfortunately due to insurance we are unable to take volunteers under 18 years of age. An Enhanced DBS check will be required for the driving role only, and this will be discussed at your induction.

“On the last Friday of the month I sing and play baritone ukulele or guitar. I like to do a mixture of songs, some for people to sing along to if they want, some to get feet a-tapping. It is good to be among friends, enjoying music together”.

- Tim, volunteer muscian
